PRODUCT NOTES: Decoron is the flat (no pile), non-woven fabric that was used widely by Tri-chem to print designs onto for painting on. Artspun and Pellon are the same type of fabric, just named differently. The terms "velvet" and "velveteen" are used interchangably to describe high pile fabrics. Suede is a low pile fabric and paints up easily with little or no preparation.

When painting on any Velvet or Suede fabric, protect the surface by laying clean paper over any areas you need to rest your hand on while painting. For best results on velvets and suedes, try not to flatten or rub any areas. Use a fiber blender or paint brush for smoothing and blending paint if using the ballpoint to apply it. The best way to paint dark velvet/velveteen is to brush paint it with at least one coat of white or heavy white fabric paint before brushing on colors. This keeps the dark fibers from absorbing the color and drastically dimming them down. Suede can usually be ballpoint painted but a base coat of white can be helpful on dark suedes as well. A white undercoat is NOT needed with shaded Midnight Suede since areas are white and pre-shaded where needed.

Self-shaded or pre-shaded areas are painted over and the shading shows through the paint...giving the design an automatic, more natural looking result without the extra effort or talent. However, darker colors used in these shaded areas will often enhance the results even more. See the Fabric Painting Instruction Book for directions on color blending.
